10 ViacomCBS is launching The Bridge Australia, a reality program just for Paramount+ with more twists and thrills than a fairground ride.

The series, filmed in Tasmania and based on the breakout hit format on C4 and HBO Max, sees 12 Australians abandoned in the wilderness and forced to work together to build a 300-metre bridge in just 20 days.

With a $250,000 prize on the line, the 12 players must work as a team but only one of them will claim the cash.

The winner will have to do some convincing deals -- sharing the cash -- to win the prize.

Chief content officer Beverley McGarvey told AdNews: "Australian audiences have a great appetite for a kind of constructive non-scripted entertainment.

"This is a bit more organic. There's a group of people, there's a bucket of cash on an island and they have to build a bridge to get to the island.

"There's the physical challenge of that but the really interesting thing is the interpersonal dynamic, because only one person can walk the final part of the bridge to get the money and then decide how to split up.

"How you behave the whole way through the experiment is interesting. And who you pick to walk across the bridge.

"It's an observation of the human condition."

Daniel Monaghan, senior vice president, content and programming, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand: “The Bridge is a fantastic series that we are thrilled to bring to the Australian market.

“Teaming up with Endemol Shine Australia will ensure this is the very definition of event television.”

Endemol Shine Australia CEO Peter Newman: “We couldn’t be more delighted to serve up this ground-breaking format.

“The Bridge is a physical and mental ordeal with an electrifying social experiment at its core ... and an endgame unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. If there’s one show to binge on in 2022, it’s The Bridge.”
