Working from home sparked a rush on puppies in Australia.

Dan Monaghan, head of programming, 10 ViacomCBS Australia, was one who acted, getting a family pet.

“At the beginning of March, I took that opportunity to get a dog for my house,” he told Adnews.

10 had the Dog House UK about rescue dogs living happily ever after with new families.

“When it came across our desk, we watched it and really enjoyed it,” says Monaghan.

“And the show ended up being our highest rating Saturday show for a number of years, and it just really touched on a moment in time for us.

“So we decided let's capitalise on that and do the Dog House Australia. We'll find our own dog shelter in New South Wales and go out and match-make these dogs to some happy families.”

Then the pandemic hit.

“A lot of people went out and got puppies from various places because working from home was a nice time to raise a puppy,” he says. “I did the same thing.”

What 10 calls “paw-fect” viewing, the Dog House Australia, is coming in 2021.

“We really are thrilled to be making our very own production of The Dog House,” says Monaghan.

“There is nothing more wonderful than watching a team of devoted matchmakers pairing homeless dogs with hopeful companions.”

He describes the program as sweet.

“After such a difficult year, I think light, fun, nice and heartwarming is where we want to position ourselves in 2021 for the whole family,” he says.
