Turkish star Arda Turan delivers stirring half-time talk

Whether its in an alleyway, in your mate's backyard on the local street with jumpers for goalposts - many kids learn the finer art of football playing scratch matches against friends and foes.

So when Nike enlisted Turkey star Arda Turan to take us back to his childhood during a halt-time talk, the result is a simple, yet powerful ad ahead of the Euro 2016 Championships this year.

The TVC, spoken in Turkish with English subtitles, begins with Turan delivering a dressing room spray to his teammates. Turan invokes memories of that big kid who used to pick on us, reminding his side, 'we don't lose when we lose... we lose when we give up'.

The beautifully shot footage flashes between the dressing room and street football match in Istanbul, set against pulsating music. There's even the obligatory butcher chopping meat to let you know shit has just got real.

Of course the boy miraculously develops supreme skills to outwit his bigger, brutish opponent and score the winning goal.

The ad was created by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam and Turan had a role in drafting the speech. It can also be viewed using 360-degree technology, where you are transplanted into the dressing room huddle, if you are brave.

It's interesting and clever that Nike has chosen to use Turan, who is not a global household name like Ronaldo, but a very highly rated within football circles and a demi-god in Turkey.

Plus it probably helps he has a 'don't mess with me' beard and attitude to boot.

Bring on the Euros.
