Would you work for free, risking your life to help others? That's what the volunteers at Surf Life Saving Australia does day-in, day-out and have done for the last century. It needs donations to continue that work, spanning 1.4million hours a year. The SLSA this weekend launched a new TV commercial to remind people to put their hands in their pockets.

The campaign is fronted by Ironman legend Trevor Hendy.

"We are the face of Australia’s beaches, yet we are a charity that provides a valuable service to millions of people each year on and off the beach at no cost,” Hendy said.

“Since its beginnings in 1907, the Surf Life Saving (SLS) movement has saved over 615,000 lives on Australian beaches but SLS can’t survive alone and relies heavily on the support of the community, through donations.

"Our lifesavers and lifeguards help to save almost 12,000 lives every year but we are not a hospital – we teach over 500,000 kids each year but we’re not a school.”

The campaign was created in house, OMD handled the media pro bono.
