Unilever’s Marc Mathieu and Diageo boss James Thomson will speak at the AANA and WFA 2014 Global Marketer Conference in Sydney, set to elighten marketers on the key weapons in their arsenal, in what the association says could be the "best speaker line-up the Australian marketing industry has ever seen".

Mathieu, a former Coca-Cola global marketer, is behind Unilever’s ‘Crafting Brands for Life’ strategy and an advocate of putting the magic back into marketing and advertising - not just selling stuff. He is a lynchpin of the company's strategy to double the size of its business without increasing its environmental footprint. At Coke he introduced the ‘Coke Side of Life’ campaign.

Thompson, a former Unilever marketer, has been at Diageo for nearly two decades overseeing its vodka, rum and ready to drink categories, as well as Guinness, among other priority brands.

The two will join Sir John Hegarty, founder of BBH, at the top of the bill. Hegarty was named as the event’s keynote speaker earlier this month.

The conference will be held in Sydney in March 2014 and bring together international marketers and advertisers to discuss common issues and challenges and find ways to solve them.

The conference on 26 March is part of the WFA’s Global Marketer Week. The event also includes member-only events, as well as sessions for non-members run by leading global marketers and advertisers.

Sunita Gloster, CEO of AANA, told AdNews: "Both these speakers are from established FMCG companies that know all too well the pressure marketers are facing today - the impact of own label products, an environment of rapid technology and media change and the need to innovate. It will be inspiring to hear these established brand owners' global insights on the challenges and key weapons they are using to deliver."

Stephan Loerke, managing director of the WFA, said: “We’re thrilled that both Marc and James have agreed to speak at our conference. I’m sure these exceptional multinational marketers will inspire and energise everyone who hears them. With Sir John Hegarty already on the bill, this year’s event is shaping up to be our best-ever agenda.”
