The Guardian Australia will parachute in a new editor, with Katharine Viner taking a new role with the company in the US.

Viner will move to New York to assume the role of editor-in-chief of The Guardian US.

Her replacement is Emily Wilson, who is currently UK network editor of theguardian.com.

Wilson has worked in several roles across The Guardian, including editor of the paper's news pages, health editor, parents' editor, acting women's editor, features editor and most recently network editor of the UK section of theguardian.com.

The Guardian Australia launched in May 2013. The site made waves early on, signing up several high profile journalists including David Marr.

Viner and Wilson will commence their new roles mid way through this year.
