Spotify has appointed David Raitt as sales director.

Spotify's boss Kate Vale has mined her old stomping grounds for the music streaming service's sales director, Google's David Raitt.

Raitt will head up sales operations for the region and has been charged with growing the company's ad business.

Raitt has spent the past 11 years with Google, most recently as head of travel and previously as head of agency. He worked with Vale when she led YouTube. She was Google's first employee in Australia.

Vale said: “Having worked with him before, I know exactly what he brings to the table – world-class experience and passion for digital, sales, and (most fantastically) music.

“David is a key hire as we aim to grow our advertising business and continue delivering market-leading ad solutions for Australian and New Zealand brands.”

Spotify has a sales team of six staff based in Sydney. Local brands who have advertised on Spotify since its launch just over a year ago included Coca-Cola, Unilever, Hyundai, CUB and Absolut.
