Salmat has recruited Network Ten chief digital media officer Nick Spooner as chief executive of the newly-formed Salmat Digital.

Salmat Digital will bring together all of the company's digital assets under one hub, including four recently acquired businesses from Photon.

Salmat chief executive Grant Harrod said Spooner will be tasked with accelerating Salmat's digital strategy, growing its client base and launching new digital solutions.

Spooner joins from Network Ten after two years as chief digital media officer. He was previously chief operating officer at Ninemsn and has held roles at Singtel Optus and Accenture.

Harrod said: “Salmat Digital is the natural evolution in Salmat’s ever-expanding multichannel communications portfolio. We now have the most comprehensive integrated digital communications capability in Australia with the largest team of dedicated digital communication professionals."

“Businesses can no longer rely on just one communication channel to engage consumers. As Australians embrace new technology, demanding real-time information, businesses are shifting to combine multiple channels to reach consumers and stay ahead of their competitors.

"Nick has an excellent track record in launching consumer-led digital media platforms for some of Australia’s leading media and communications companies. We are delighted to have Nick join Salmat to head up our rapidly expanding digital communication services business and lead its growth and expansion."

In April, Spooner was appointed as IAB Australia's chairman. Last year, Salmat bought four Photon digital businesses, including C4 Communications, Be Interactive, Returnity and MessageNet, for $75.3 million.
