POLL OF THE WEEK: Was Mortein right to swat Louie the Fly?

After 50 years, Mortein has finally given iconic mascot Louie the Fly the swat. Was it the right move? Cast your vote.

The parentage of one of Australia's most-loved icons has been the subject of some debate. While Bryce Courtenay is often acknowledged as the creator, a number of others were involved, including writer and cartoonist Geoff Morgan Pike, and writer Brian Henderson - who is said to have scrawled the lyrics to the jingle in a cab on the way to the client [AdNews 80th Anniversary Edition, p.57].

Actor Ross Higgins, who provided the distinctive voice of Louie since the 1950s, said: "Nothing lasts forever; it is a sad farewell to an iconic and loveable character. I guess Louie finally ran out of lives but he can be proud of a very good innings."
