Q Ltd jumps on group buying bandwagon
ASX Listed digital marketing group Q Ltd has tapped into the group buying phenomenon by launching its own site, Great Daily Deals. The website will aggregate all the latest deals from sites including Groupon, Living Social, Cudo and Spreets in addition to niche providers like Eco-Daily, which starts in spring.

ASB bans gas heating ad
Australian Gas and Solar had an advertisement featuring a baby touching a gas heater banned because the child in the photograph wasn’t pictured with an adult. The Advertising Standards Bureau said it was “unsafe practice” leaving a child unattended near a heater and that the ad was contrary to prevailing community standards of health and safety.

Pearce and Rubensohn join independent review board
Emeritus Professor Dennis Pearce and Victoria Rubensohn OAM have replaced retiring Hon Deirdre O'Connor and Mick Palmer as independent reviewers on the Advertising Standards Bureau. Prof Pearce is a consultant with HWL Ebsworth Lawyers and a Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU) College of Law, while Rubensohn is the convenor of the Classification Review Board and has been principal of international communications consultancy Omni Media, which specialises in communications regulatory policy.

Retailers unite for POPAI awards
Several of Australia’s major retailers are united in their support of the 2011 Marketing at Retail Awards and Gala Dinner on September 14 at the Palladium at Crown Casino, Melbourne. 7-Eleven, Australian Geographic, Coles, McDonald’s, Myer, Optus, Repco, and Independent Brands Australia (Cellarbrations) have been confirmed as retail partners, according to POPAI General Manager Karen Spear.

Better Homes and Gardens takes top honours
The Australian Newsagents Federation has named Better Homes and Gardens Magazine of the Year at its annual conference in Melbourne last week. It is the fourth time the magazine has won the award, which is voted on by more than 250 newsagents this year.
