EXCLUSIVE: Y&R's group managing director in Sydney, Naseema Sparks, will step down from her role, as Y&R Brands chief executive Russel Howcroft moves to Sydney full-time.

Sparks was appointed to the group managing director role as part of a major restructure of Y&R Australia at the beginning of the year, which saw the appointment of similar roles in Melbourne and Brisbane. Sparks was previously managing director of IdeaWorks.

She will continue to work with Y&R in a consulting capacity, helping the group with new business and assisting Ideaworks with its Optus work.

Howcroft told AdNews: “I will now be in Sydney for the full working week. The office of the regional chief executive is in Sydney, so that's where I need to be. Now I am in Sydney, it is not really necessary for anyone to fill the group managing director role.”

Sparks also sits on a number of boards, including Racing NSW and Sydney Dance Company. Howcroft said the move will also allow Sparks to focus on her board positions.

Other group managing directors include Phil Mcdonald in Brisbane and Steve Doherty in Melbourne.

Y&R was recently unsuccessful in its bid to wrest the lucrative Optus account from M&C Saatchi. However, IdeaWorks still performs some duties for Optus.

The changes come into effect this Friday 27 April.
