Myer appoints chief marketing and merchandising officer

Myer ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Jess Hart.

Myer has made former boss of The Apparel Group its chief merchandise and marketing officer. Daniel Bracken will report directly to Bernie Brooks.

Bracken previously oversaw clothing brands including Sports Craft, Saba and Willow while at The Apparel Group. His remit includes design, sourcing, buying and manufacturing, as well as advertising, digital, marketing, events and execution of brand strategy.

Myer announced a raft of hires this afternoon to the ASX. But Bracken's appointment could prove interesing for at least two of Australia's biggest ad agencies.

Ogilvy Badjar is the current incumbent on the retailer's main creative account. But Myer called a pitch ten months ago and since then, apart from an announcement at Christmas, stating that the process remained ongoing, it's been quiet.

The rumour mill has it that Clemenger Melbourne was the main challenger for the account.

Bracken's appointment could yet see the pitch concluded in less than 12 months since start, although there is always the chance that the new man may want to start from scratch.
