J.Lo castigated for "shameless" Fiat promo

Jennifer Lopez has been lambasted on social media for promoting Fiat during her performance at the American Music Awards.

Lopez, more popularly known as J.Lo, was singing a medley of her recent songs live when her group of dancers exited to reveal a Fiat. After initially struggling to open the door, she climbed in the vehicle and continued her performance from inside its confines.

Lopez, who is a spokersperson for the car brand, faced a torrent of criticism on social media and online media for what's been termed a "shameless" promotion for Fiat.

Questlove from the band Roots wrote on Twitter: "Yo. I know I didn't just see that dumb Fiat. I KNOW I didn't just see that friggin' Fiat". Singer John Legend responded to Questlove: "That had to be the most shameless thing I've ever seen in a performance. I was genuinely shocked."

Tweets about her performance ranged from: "Remember that time we saw J.Lo cruising down the street in her Fiat? Me neither." to "J-Lo + Fiat 500 at the AMA's = pathetic Is there no dignity with regards to product placement?".

Brad Tuttle of Time magazine wrote on the publication's website: "But because the performance featured a Fiat 500 at center stage for no sensible reason, J.Lo probably won’t be remembered for being raunchy, but for being a sell-out."

A Fiat television commercial featuring the singer followed in one of the commercial breaks of the awards show after her performance.
