Ikon has hired MediaCom's Bryan Magee as national head of trading.

Magee will head up trading across all media including digital.

Magee, who was promoted to MediaCom's national head of digital in September when John Miskelly took on the group-wide role, joined MediaCom in 2011 following a decade at Mindshare in London and a short stint at ITV.

His move to Ikon, due at the end of this month, comes four months after MediaCom restructured, bringing in Nicole Turley from Starcom to head up investment. That decision to reconfigure its operations followed Carat's move for trading boss Paul Brooks.

The move means Ikon has a national trading head for the first time in 18 months. Magee will work closely with trading directors Michael Selden and Pia Coyle while Phil Cowlishaw remains head of technology and platforms as performance media director.

Ikon remains in market for a couple of senior national roles, but ANZ boss James Greet said Magee was a natural fit as he bids to rebuild the agency following a management purge in March 2013.

”Bryan has led MediaCom trading across both traditional media and digital which makes him incredibly unique in this market and this is exactly the kind of sharp, progressive talent we want at Ikon who naturally think no lines. He’s a perfect fit for us – someone who’s keen to challenge the cosy norm and find a better way,” said Greet.

Magee said it was an offer he couldn't refuse.

“Opportunities like this do not come along very often and I can’t wait to get started.”

MediaCom boss Mark Pejic said that the GroupM agency would "have a look at the role and think about what we need going forward."

"Bryan wants to move on, Ikon are rebuilding, good luck to him. He goes with our blessing."
