MediaCom's digital head of implementation planning and investment John Miskelly has been promoted to GroupM head of digital, with a remit to oversee hundreds of millions of dollars in digital investment.

GroupM would not reveal the digital budget that Miskelly will oversee, however chief trading officer Danny Bass confirmed the group's total media investment runs to around $2 billion, and said that the company's percentage of digital investment in relation to traditional media is “overweight” compared to the rest of the market.

As digital investment of most media agencies sits at around 15-20% of total investment, this would likely take Miskelly's remit to at least $400 million in digital investment.

Miskelly has been replaced by fellow MediaCom staffer Bryan Magee.  Magee moves into the new national role at MediaCom from the position of group investment director at MediaCom Sydney. He will report to MediaCom chief investment officer Paul Brooks.

Miskelly's promotion into the GroupM fold follows the promotion of former GroupM chief digital officer Danny Bass to the position of chief trading officer. Bass moved into the role in April, after then-chief trading officer James Parkinson moved from the Australian GroupM office to head up the firm's trading operations across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Miskelly said of his new role: “It is with a heavy heart I move on from MediaCom but the chance to work across the wider group and with Danny is truly an exciting and fantastic opportunity.

“I look forward to working with the other agencies and our publisher partners to preserve and grow GroupM's digital product as best in class.”

Bass said: “ John has one of the finest digital minds in the APAC region. He brings a truly unique skill set to the role, that will only add to the extremely strong digital leadership team we haven place across the group.”

Miskelly and Magee will start their new roles on 1 October.
