The IAB has hired Alice Manners as chief executive.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has hired GroupM Interaction chief operating officer Alice Manners as its chief executive after a four-month search.

A GroupM stalwart, Manners has been the chief operating officer of GroupM Interaction Asia Pacific for the past eight years. She has also worked for mOne and mDigital.

Manners replaced Paul Fisher who announced his resignation at the end of last year to join Nielsen.

Former News Australia Sales head Tony Prentice acted as interim chief executive to oversee a project relating to the IAB's measurement contract with Nielsen. He stepped down two weeks ago and director of regulatory affairs Samantha Yorke took over as interim chief executive. Manners will start in early August.

IAB Australia chair Mark Britt said: “The online industry has gone through a huge transformation in the past year and with more change ahead, it is perfect that we'll now have someone of Alice's calibre and experience heading up our peak trade association for online. Being able to attract Alice with her 14-plus years local and international digital experience represents a real step change for IAB Australia.”

Manners said: “The recent CEASA data shows that digital can no longer be labelled a new or emerging media. As it continues to grow in both influence and importance, digital will undeniably begin to lead discussions at the top table and the opportunity to manage IAB Australia's transition through this growth was one that I could not resist. I look forward to working closely with the team and board to develop our plans for the future.”
