House Rules hammers it home for Seven

The finale of Seven's House Rules attracted 1.83 million metro viewers last night, securing it as the top-rating program of the night and the winner in all key demographics.

Despite failing to anchor big numbers in its first weeks, partly due to competition from Nine's The Block and The Voice, House Rules had been steadily growing its audiences in recent weeks. It has since beaten ratings draw The Block a number of times. House Rules' series average was 1.18 million metro viewers.

Last night's finale was split into two parts; a grand final and a winner's announcement. The latter lured 1.83 million metro viewers while the grand final episode scored a solid 1.53 million, making the two the most-watched programs of the night, according to preliminary overnight figures from OzTam. The winner's announcement was also the top free-to-air program in all three demographics - the 25 to 54, 18 to 49 and 16 to 39.

Other high-rating programs on Seven included Seven News (1.32 million), Today Tonight (1.12 million) and the debut of its new US thriller, Red Widow (901,000).

Meanwhile, Nine's The Block gathered an audience of 1.22 million, while A Current Affair scored 1.14 million viewers. A screening of local movie Red Dog attracted just 637,000.

Channel Ten didn't fare as well as its rivals last night, with only two programs making the top 20. News at Five, which ranked 17th on the chart, had 771,000 viewers. The second night of MasterChef's Wild West Week reeled in 646,000 viewers.

As expected, Seven won the night with 25.1% of audience share, followed by Nine with 19.4%. Ten had 9.7% while SBS had 5.5%.
