Good debut for Celebrity Apprentice

Celebrity Apprentice made a solid debut last night on Nine with 1.32 million viewers tuning in but Seven still won the night.

The new series launched to an audience of 1.32 million and 1.05 million metro viewers across its two time blocks, according to preliminary overnight figures from OzTam. The show ranked fourth and eighth for the night.

The reality competition program features celebrities including former One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, publicist Max Markson, footballer Warwick Capper and former Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell. ACP Magazines director - media, public affairs and brand development, Deborah Thomas, is one of the judges.

The show's host and principal judge is Yellow Brick Road founder Mark Bouris. Nine has a stake in the financial services venture.

Nine's The Big Bang Theory continues to deliver ratings for the network as the second most watched show for the night with 1.36 million viewers. It was just beaten by Seven News which pulled in 1.37 million viewers.

The top ten is rounded out by The X Factor, Today Tonight, Nine News, Home and Away, The Mentalist and A Current Affair.

Ten's highest ranked show was The 7pm Project, soon to be extended and renamed The Project, in 16th position with 716,000 viewers. Junior MasterChef was 18th and saw 679,000 viewers tune in to watch pre-pubescent chefs whip up improbable culinary delights. New SBS comedy Housos rated 284,000 viewers.

Ironically, recently cancelled 6.30 with George Negus saw a significant increase in its audience numbers with 501,000 viewers jumping onboard. Last week, when Ten announced the show's demise, it had pulled in 340,000 viewers.

On pay TV, Rove LA had a national audience of 138,000, up from 85,000 last week, according to OzTam.

Across the free-to-air main channels, Seven narrowly won the night with 23.4% audience share. Nine was close behind with 23.1%, followed by the ABC with 13.6%, Ten with 12.3% and SBS with 4.2%.
