Foxtel is using Game of Thrones as bait in a bid to increase Foxtel Play revenues. Play customers can get a discounted subscription to its Premium Movies and Drama package during the season four broadcast of the hit show.

The show returns on Monday 7 April, and existing and new Foxtel Play customers will be able to add Premium Movies and Drama to their first $25 genre pick for $10 during the month of April.

Foxtel chief executive Richard Freudenstein said: "Game of Thrones is one of the most popular programs in the world, and is a favourite among Australian viewers." He added that the firm's agreement with HBO meant it could deliver first run "at a special rate".

Foxtel is also offering existing subscribers to the main Foxtel platform access to Showcase for $10 extra per month during the period 20 March to 30 June if they sign up between 20 March and 17 April.
