Air conditioning company Daikin has appointed PHD Australia and Spark PHD New Zealand to handle media buying.

PHD won the account following a pitch process which lasted for three months, ousting incumbent Initiative.

The agency will begin work immediately. Daikin’s creative agency is The Works.

According to Nielsen, Daikin spent $2.1 million on main media in the 12 months to May 2011, down from $2.6 million in the prior period.

However, an industry source said the business is worth closer to $5 million in Australia, and $1 million in New Zealand.
