UPDATED: Financial services provider CUA and online company CarHistory.com.au have become the latest brands to pull advertising from Southern Cross Austereo’s Kyle and Jackie O Show.
The move follows a mass exodus of advertiser support from the program, following an outburst from radio host Kyle Sandilands, who referred to a News Limited journalist as a “fat slag”, among other insults.
Advertisers including the Federal Government, Telstra, Holden, Harvey Norman, Blackberry, and others have withdrawn their support.
CUA said in a statement: “Our advertising support has been withdrawn from Austereoand all of its programmes. CUA purchased advertising time on this channel in a rotating block without the intention of specifically advertising on Kyle Sandilands’ show, however, we believe that a blanket withdrawal from advertising on any programme is a better approach to ensure that Austereo is fully aware of the concerns we hold over the nature of the comments.”
CarHistory.com.au said: "In response to Kyle Sandilands' on-air comments about a female journalist made on the Kyle and Jackie O Show last week, CarHistory has decided to remove its advertisements from the 2 DayFM Breakfast and the 6-7pm timeslot on the Southern Cross Austereo network. CarHistory will remain advertising with the Southern Cross Austereo network – with advertising shifting to other programs not fronted by Kyle Sandilands. The Veda Group, who own CarHistory, will continue to review their advertising commitment to the network over the coming weeks."
The demand for advertisers to distance themselves from the show has been largely driven by people using the website Change.org as a platform. A petition on the site has praised those advertisers who have removed advertising, and named and shamed those that have not.
The petition, which aims ot have Sandilands dumped from radio, already has 24,387 signatures.
The website names Foxtel as one of the sponsors still supporting the show, as well as travel company Adrenalin Experiences. Foxtel were unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
