ACP Magazines will launch a new lifestyle focused technology magazine TechLife which will hit the stands in June, with PC User to close.

The new product will focus on lifestyle activities as opposed to traditional tech products and reviews. Seeing a gap in the technology information market for "more vibrant content", TechLife will be a multi-media brand that will provide information about putting technology to work in day-to-day lives.

The launch of the new magazine replaces PC User which will produce its last edition in June, with the current editorial team transitioning to the new title.

ACP specialist publisher Brendon Hill said: “We feel we can improve the content of PC User to be less about the machine and more about the person that uses it.

“There is a gap in the technology information market for vibrant, beautifully designed, solution-focused content.

TechLife will be similar to what Top Gear did for motoring, making it less about motoring and more about lifestyle. PC User is very text and product heavy. TechLife will be more of a magazine journey.”

The magazine will be supported by a launch campaign which will include the May distribution of a sampler magazine along with an electronic sampler distributed through ACP's social and online channels.

TechLife editor-in-chief Tony Sarno said: “Consumer technology magazines haven’t really innovated since the 1980s, concentrating primarily on products through reviews, testing and ratings. TechLife will focus on lifestyle activities — such as leisure and entertainment, health and fitness — and explain how technology can enhance those pursuits.

TechLife is not about the cargo-cult of technology, which sums up the typical coverage of tech, it’s about what people do with it. We’re not interested in the nuts and bolts of processors but, rather, the benefits to users.”

Sarno is also editor of ACP's computer magazine APC.
