SYDNEY: Independent fashion title Russh is rumoured to be in trouble as debt collectors are called in and key senior staff are handing in their resignations.
A newspaper story today claimed the magazine landed in hot water after failing to pay a leading Sydney model and artist agency $19,000. The report said the outstanding money owed had been referred to the debt collectors.
The report also claimed that both creative director Trevor Stones and contributing features editor Catherine Caines had resigned last week. In addition, industry insiders are today (18 January) saying editor Charlotte Scott and art director Melanie Kamsler have handed in their resignations as well.
A spokesperson at Russh confirmed Stones had resigned but that she had not heard anything about the other three resignations.
Neither Scott nor Dr Ian Davies, publisher & CEO, had returned calls or emails at time of writing.
Launched in August 2004, Russh has established itself as an independent alternative to mainstream fashion magazines such as Vogue and women’s lifestyle magazines like Cleo and Cosmopolitan. In October 2007, Russh launched its first syndicated edition of the magazine in Japan and claimed to be the first Australian fashion title to be syndicated in an overseas market.
When interviewed in October last year, Scott said Russh started off small but has become one of Australia’s fastest-growing fashion magazines.
Russh is independently published by Dr Ian Davies with a monthly circulation of around 20,000 in Australia and an additional 5,000 overseas, according to Scott.
