Young Guns: Remy Randall at Murmur-Group

In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Murmur-Group account executive Remy Randall.

Time in current role/time at company:

I started as an account executive at Murmur Group last November, so it’s coming up to five months now.

How long have you been in the industry?

Just over one year.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

This was definitely not my plan out of school. I originally did a diploma in interior design (almost 10 years ago) and worked in the property styling industry as a stylist. I eventually ended up in customer relationship management in the same industry, but at the ripe old age of 24, I decided property styling was not my life goal. So, I took myself back to university to get a degree in business, majoring in marketing. When I finished, I landed a contract role as a marketing coordinator at Destination NSW. When that contract ended, I decided I wanted to experience marketing from an agency perspective – and here I am at Murmur!

Who is your right-hand who guides you day to day?

At work, my colleague Deb who is a senior account manager at Murmur. Although she is younger than me, she is wise beyond her years, extremely knowledgeable and just a genuine all ‘round awesome person. I feel like she guides and teaches me at work but also in life!

At home, my partner who also works in marketing is my right-hand man. He is always ready and willing to answer any of my questions or have a marketing related debate...lol! He is also a great leader at work and I admire his patience and empathy towards his colleagues. I can learn so many leadership skills from him.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

I love the psychological elements that seep into the marketing industry. I am all about getting into the mind of the consumer and trying to figure out what influences them to convert.

And the biggest challenge?

Hmmmhhmm...so far, probably staying on top of campaign spends when budgets are constantly shifting. It’s a full-time job.

Whose job have you set your sight in the future?

In the short term I’m gunning to be promoted to an account manager role and I’d love to be promoted as soon as my skillset is up to the task.

In the long run, the CMO of Mecca. Dream big they say!

Where do you turn for inspiration?

My Mum. She is a published author, public speaker and cancer survivor. If I could have just half of her confidence, the sky would be the limit.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I exposed a lot when I played a mandatory game of two truths and a lie in my first week, but they might not know I’m ¼ Polish?

In five years’ time I’ll be:

Closer to being the CMO of Mecca… haha.
