Young Gun profiles takes a look at the young talent across the Australian advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector. Aiming to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Christina McCarthy, account manager at Channel Factory.

Time at the company:

I started in June 2022, so 10 months!

How long have you been in the industry?

My media journey started in January 2021, just over two years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I always planned on finding a job in the marketing industry. I studied a Bachelor of Commerce back in New Zealand, and completed a double major in marketing and management.

From there, I worked across financial services, education, and the marketing sector before landing in media advertising. I started my media career in out-of-home before shifting into the digital space at Channel Factory.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

I’m fortunate to have multiple right hand people! One being James Rose, head of Victoria / South Australia / Western Australia and also Ilya Harpas, client partner for Victoria. They both hold a wealth of knowledge and are genuine people, I’m grateful to have them in my corner to learn from and look up to.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

Being able to work with such a diverse group of people! Everyone brings such a unique perspective and skillset. I’m a people person - I thrive in social settings and enjoy interacting with others on a daily basis.

I also love how collaborative and supportive my work environment and industry is.

And the biggest challenge?

How everchanging and fast paced the digital space is. It’s a challenge, but a good one, because it means I'm always learning and never bored.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I’m hoping to move into a client partnerships role in the future.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

The Channel Factory team! It's a tight knit team and I’m grateful to be part of it.

My favourite advert is:

I love an emotion-provoking ad. At the moment, it’s the heartwarming ‘I’d like a bar of chocolate, please’ ad from Cadbury Chocolate.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I’m a qualified reformer pilates instructor, but finding the time to teach is a challenge!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In a leadership position, leading a team. I feel fulfilled when I am supporting, training, giving back to others and sharing knowledge.
