Young Gun profiles takes a look at the young talent across the Australian advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector. Aiming to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Bradley Vickery, client & marketplace manager at Wavemaker Brisbane

Time in current role/time at the company:

Two years.

How long have you been in the industry?

Also two years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

Advertising wasn’t always the plan. I completed a music degree at QUT and had my sights set on working as an A&R. However, in my last semester I took an advertising subject which completely changed my direction.

Working in advertising then became the main goal, and after trawling through the QUT job boards I found my first role with Wavemaker.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

James Lever. His advice and guidance have been invaluable, and he continues to be someone I turn to for help in navigating new challenges.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The ability to work on large well-known brands, from early on in your career, and being given the ability to think and make meaningful contributions to their growth.

And the biggest challenge?

Same answer as above…

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

James Boardman’s role within Wavemaker as growth strategy partner. I think that would be an incredibly interesting and rewarding job.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

I have two go-to sources for inspiration. Books for knowledge, and music for when I need creative inspiration.

My favourite advert is:

The “Until the climate stops changing” series from NRMA.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I used to own and run a jewellery business before I started in the advertising industry.

In five years’ time I'll be:

Working overseas making a meaningful impact with some exciting brands.
