MELBOURNE: Origin Energy has awarded its creative and media accounts to DDB and Universal McCann, after ditching The Campaign Palace and OMD.

As first revealed by AdNews, the energy company had opened a review of its advertising arrangements in April, moving to a shortlist in May.

Badjar Ogilvy, Clemenger BBDO, DDB and incumbent The Campaign Palace were all in contention for the creative business, while Ikon, Starcom MediaVest, UM and incumbent OMD were shortlisted for media. In early July, AdNews reported that OMD had been dropped from the shortlist.

"Following a rigorous and transparent evaluation process we are now pleased to announce that DDB has been selected as our creative agency and Universal McCann as our media agency," said an Origin Energy spokesperson.

"We were very impressed with the high calibre of agencies which participated and the quality of responses to our brief. Our sincere thanks have been expressed to The Campaign Palace and OMD for their commitment and contributions to our business.  They have played a key role in helping us lead in a challenging and competitive market."

Origin Energy spent $5.9 million on media in the 12 months to January 2010, down from $6.4 million in the previous corresponding period, according to Nielsen.
