Fairfax Media has appointed two new directors with experience of digital media to its board, in a nod to the future direction of the company.

The former chief executive of Austereo, Michael Anderson, and the former publisher and editor-in-chief of the Australian Financial Review, The Age, and The Sydney Morning Herald, Gregory Hywood, have both been appointed to the board.

The two appointments point to the new direction Fairfax will soon unveil, following a review of the company's five-year strategic plan by management consultants, Bain & Co, which will be revealed at an investor meeting in October.

Anderson is credited with being an intrinsic part of Austereo's shift toward digital media, while Hywood brings his journalism credentials to the board. Both are areas Fairfax has committed to investing in, with the company last week telling the ASX it would be focussing on migrating print readers over to digital platforms.

Announcing the new appointments, Fairfax Media chairman, Roger Corbett, said: " The addition of Michael's and Greg's skills and experience to teh board is a very good complement to our existing board.

"I belive the newly constituted board is a great combination to guide the company into its future in the exciting and challenging world of new media."
