Movers & Shakers: Publicis, IMAA, Wavemaker, Bench Media, oOh!media

It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out some of the biggest moves this week.

Spark Foundry's Imogen Hewitt becomes chief media officer at Publicis

Publicis Groupe ANZ has promoted Imogen Hewitt to the new position of chief media officer in Australia and New Zealand.The creation of the role comes following three years of growth and momentum across the ANZ media agencies at Publicis, according to RECMA figures. Agencies include Zenith and Starcom in Australia, MBM in New Zealand and Spark Foundry ANZ. Hewitt has been CEO of Spark Foundry Australia for the past four years and has seen the agency more than double in size since 2020. She expanded her remit to include Spark Foundry New Zealand last year.

James Boardman promoted to chief strategy officer at Wavemaker

Wavemaker Australia has promoted James Boardman to the newly created role of chief strategy officer, responsible for leading the agency’s strategy and planning practice across all five Australian offices and Auckland, New Zealand. Boardman, in his previous role as APAC growth strategy partner, played a key part in local, regional and global pitches, and he will continue to provide support for Wavemaker’s Asia-Pacific strategy community.

IMAA board changes

Independent Media Agencies of Australia (IMAA) has announced a new board of directors for 2024. The IMAA was founded in 2020 by five independent media agency directors including Nick Behr, Dominic Pearman and Darren McKenzie; the trio will step down from their director roles at the end of 2023. Existing Board members Jacquie Alley (The Media Store COO) as chair and Stephen Fagan (Media Republic director) as treasurer will be joined by Phil McDonald (BCM Group MD), Melissa Roberts (The Advertising Room CEO) and Angela Smith (AFFINITY chief brand officer), voted in by members at the IMAA Annual General Meeting this month.

Michael Knox appointed ECD at Icon Agency

Icon Agency has appointed Michael Knox to the newly created role of executive creative director. Knox most recently ECD at Think HQ and before that helped build News Corp Australia’s own creative agency, Roller. He has also served as chief creative officer of Grey Greater China. 

G Squared bolsters paid media and search with two hires 

Digital consultancy G Squared has named Steph Hasouros head of paid media. Hasouros was most recently at independent digital media advertising agency inc Digital, where she was head of digital media. Previously she worked at Mindshare and ReachLocal. Ishita Sehdev is also joining G Squared as manager of the SEO consulting team. Sehdev was the former head of SEO at Reef Digital for more than six years and has also worked at Glasshat and Search Academy.

oOh!media appoints Lisa Green chief people and culture officer

oOh!media has appointed former ASX Group head of human resources Lisa Green as chief people and culture officer. Green will head delivery of oOh!’s strategy across its 900 strong team, including key responsibility for oOh!’s values and DEI objectives. With more than 25 years in HR, employee relations and vendor management, she joins after more than eight years at the ASX where she led diversity, learning and development, recruitment, performance management, compensation and benefit structures, HR policies and systems, employee alignment and engagement initiatives.
 

Experience agency George P. Johnson (GPJ) has promoted Gavin Link to director of live production, APAC, while Trish McNamara returns to the agency to take on the role of head of integrated production for GPJ ANZ. Having spent eight years shaping GPJ US’ Live Production department, Link will spearhead the Live Production team, focusing on live and broadcast shows across the APAC region. McNamara will lead the strategic growth, alignment and ways of working of the Integrated (Live, Digital, Content and Registration) Production department of GPJ ANZ.

Erin Fraser promoted to group manager digital strategy at Bench Media

Bench Media has promoted Erin Fraser to group manager digital strategy. Fraser has been with Bench for more than four years years and successfully led the growth of key accounts at the agency. Emanating from a strong Adtech industry background Fraser has worked at Fairfax, Bonzai and dataxu.

DMARGE appoints Alex Mundy senior agency sales manager

Alex Mundy has been appointed senior sales manager of men's publisher DMARGE. With more than six years of experience in media, Mundy has worked across online, print, and TV, including stints at OMD and NewsCorp, where he led the team as head of agency key accounts. Mundy will now head up D'MARGE’s sales team and oversee the development of the company's commercial projects.

Lu Borges joins TBWA\Media Arts Lab as Chief Communications Officer

TBWA\Media Arts Lab, the bespoke agency for Apple has appointed Lu Borges as its new chief communications officer. Based at the agency's Los Angeles headquarters, Borges will assume a global role overseeing all communication touchpoints for the agency's seven hubs worldwide. Previously the head of brand and communications at MullenLowe U.S., she implemented a holistic approach to communications, elevating the agency's reputation.
