Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Alexandra Gregory: Sales Director at Amobee

Time in current role/time at the company:
3 years

How would you describe what the company does?
Amobee is a tech company that makes programmatic buying smarter, easier and more results-focused for businesses.

What do you do day-to-day?
Talk to people about their business and marketing goals or challenges and see how Amobee can help.

Define your job in one word:
Collaborative.

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:
I guess, like a lot of people, I kind of fell into this industry. I was a fresh uni graduate working in PR at the time and one of my besties was working in media. He always looked like he had the best time at work and one day he told me there was a role in his department and to come work with him. I loved it and never looked back.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Amobee is growing tremendously and lately it’s definitely been tough finding the right people for the team. If you’re looking for a job, come chat with me!

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
I would like to see more companies focus on how we can do succession planning better for staff. The media industry definitely loses a lot of great people to other industries or often people love the company but move businesses for growth.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at:
News Corp

Who is/has been a great mentor to you and why?
I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some pretty amazing leaders  and have learnt alot from them - hopefully you all know who you are.

Thank you for teaching me many things, but a few to share:

1 - The relationships you build and your reputation outside of work are just as important as that within your business

2 - Don’t wait for someone else to create the future of the industry

3- Think big and back your ideas and yourself!

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?

3 things:

● Always say yes to meeting new people or having a coffee with someone.

● Discover what your own style is in whatever you’re doing, as it’s most powerful when it’s genuine.

● Think about your own personal brand and what you want people to say about you when you’re not in the room.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
Doing something in the wellness industry. My team knows that I’m constantly trying to fix any ailments with food or supplements or sending them to the infrared sauna.

My mantra / philosophy is:
Change begins at the end of your comfort zone. You need to try new things and feel uncomfortable otherwise you’ll never grow.

My favourite advert is:
P&G #Likeagirl campaign. It is a great example of a brand playing a part in social narratives when it genuinely aligns with their brand.

Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to?
I feel so seen with this question. Whilst I don’t actually watch that much TV, I have pretty much every subscription service as my household has been lured in by so many free trials that we never end up cancelling. Hey… you always need options, right?

Although, I feel like I can never find anything to watch so I usually have a book somewhere nearby.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I am a pretty open book and so most people know way too much about me already. Some might not know I recently officially became a marriage celebrant to be able to marry 2 of my best friends
