Nine’s 2GB and 3AW started the year on top of the radio ratings.

2GB led the total ratings in Sydney with 14.4% (up from 13.8%) of the share, as well as the breakfast slot at 18.1%, up from 17.1%.

In Melbourne, 3AW was on 16.3% and 22.2% at breakfast.

Greg Byrnes, Nine Radio’s head of content: “This survey proves that 3AW and 2GB are the “must listen” radio stations in their cities. We are way out in front as #1 and the audiences are getting even bigger. More than 100,000 new listeners are turning in each week when compared to a year ago.

“Ben Fordham in Sydney and Ross and Russ in Melbourne have again recorded stunning results while in Perth, Gareth Parker has grown the 6PR Breakfast audience by 26% year-on-year.

“Right across the country talk audiences are growing stronger year-on-year, with more and more people turning to us for live and local news and opinion.”

ARN’s chief content officer Duncan Campbell: “Our unwavering content strategy for all of our brands is allowing us to build on ARN’s 2020 success story.

“We focus on the connection our audiences have with our talent who are some of the most well known and loved personalities in Australia, combined with a well-researched music strategy.

“And while there have been many ongoing disruptions to the market continuing in to this year, ARN’s consistency has delivered these excellent results again today which is testament to the content teams’ dedication to delivering our audiences reliably engaging content both at breakfast and throughout the day.”
