Dave the Goose, an Air NZ character voiced by Australian actor Bryan Brown since 2016, is leaving advertising for the bright lights of the big screen in Hollywood.

He's turning his back on the long running Better Way to Fly campaign to audition for the spy movie, No Time to Fly.

Dave has been the star of a flock of advertisements for eight years, spreading his wings in Los Angeles, Canada and New Zealand.

There’s been no shortage of friends made along the way, including Pete the Kiwi, voiced by Sam Neill.

Dave’s journey hasn’t been smooth sailing after famously ruffling the feathers of a certain other aviation goose who tried to replicate Dave’s success.

Now, the Kiwi airline will see Dave fly the nest as he makes the journey north in his final campaign with Air New Zealand.

“Dave the Goose has been an integral member of the Air New Zealand crew, answering the call without a honk when asked to highlight our international network to Australian travellers," said Air New Zealand GM of Australia Kathryn O’Brien.

“As we bid farewell to Dave, we thank him for embodying the spirit of adventure and mateship, and reminisce on the times he captivated our Aussie passengers.

"Dave will always have a place in our hearts, we wish him good luck and nothing but clear skies in his pursuit of stardom.”

Bryan Brown also penned a sign off to his mate: “Dave brings out my inner goose. I’m going to miss him but know he’s going to hit the heights in his new career.”
