Foxtel has launched a internet TV service called Foxtel On Demand, which will charge users for TV episodes and movies via an internet connection.

The new service requires users to connect a modem to a High Definition iQ2 set-top-box. From today, all Foxtel iQ2 set-top-boxes will start recieveing a software upgrade, with the new features being installed automatically.

Users will be able to download TV series episodes at $2.95 per episode, with some children's programming available at $1.95 an episode. New release movies are available at $5.50 each, while high definition new releases are $5.95 and older movies cost $3.95.

Once a title has been viewed, the user has access to it for a limited amount of time. Users have access to movies for two days, and TV episodes for ten days.

Foxtel chief executive Kim Williams said: "Foxtel On Demand delivers further on Foxtel's compelling consumer proposition of putting you in control of your television viewing and allowing you to watch what you want, when you want to.

"Foxtel has been investing in its technology to build on the suite of services available to our subscribers and with the launch of On Demand, Foxtel has moved to the internet and completed its offering which includes HD, 3D and Internet TV to become the home of entertainment."
