This week’s entries should satisfy the most voracious appetite of ‘media firsts’ with Kuhn’s painted faces, spray painted pigeons, an epic mini R/C race and Mercedes’ tweet-powered TVC
Number 5) James Kuhn vs. 2 Reasons
First up in this week’s countdown is James Kuhn’s incredible optical illusion style face paintings employed by Canadian band Young Rival. He has an amazing technique for making the human face’s moving parts become part of the canvas – even using the mouth for a monkey’s nether regions… The results are pretty stunning nonetheless.

Number 4) Spray painted pigeons
From painted faces to painted Venetian pigeons. Swiss artist Julian Charriere and German-born Julius von Bismarck’s project called "Some Pigeons Are More Equal Than Others" involved spray-painting pigeons and releasing them around Venice. They certainly look more impressive than their mangy grey counterparts – not too sure how content they’d have been about the whole thing though?

Number 3) Most Wanted: The Greatest R/C Car Chase Ever
This epic viral to promote the forthcoming Need for Speed Most Wanted game is billed as the ‘world’s greatest R/C car chase, ever’. Illegal street racers take on the fuzz in this wonderfully shot mini radio controlled car chase movie.
Number 2) Mercedes: Twitter-Powered TVC
Mercedes Benz’s recent ‘social media first’ TV ad airing alongside X Factor enabled viewers to choose the ending by Tweeting the hashtag #Hide or #Evade. There’s also an interesting #YouDrive Channel with a unique looking YouTube interactive format where you can also direct the outcomes of the story.
Number 1) Ideogenetic Machine: A Comic Book Installation
Number 1 this week goes to a perfect blend of art and technology called the Ideogenetic Machine from New York-based artist Nova Jiang. It’s an interactive installation that uses a camera to incorporate portraits of participants in real time within an algorithmically generated comic book.
If you find yourself in Taiwan before the end of the year then check it out at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art in Taichung. Otherwise, check out the video on Vimeo.
