Ben Welsh: Too much rose

21 June 2012

The rose is beginning to take its toll.

I wonder how much they get through over the week? 10,000+ delegates and entourage must mean 15,000 all up, average 5 days and a bottle a day. That’s 75,000 bouteilles!

Today’s highlight (apart from winning a silver) was a talk by Michael Patrick King, writer of sex and the city who talked about passion and creativity. His mantra, ‘risk enthusiasm’ struck a chord. As did the revelation that he had a vagina, or rather, as he put it, the use of several in his writing team. A very charming and amusing man, he had the audience riveted as he talked about his approach of riding the zeitgeist in TV.

There were a number of other interesting speakers on today, but it clashed with the CD lunch at Colombe d’or in St Paul de Vence, where there were also a number of interesting speakers, not least, the irrepressible Seani Boyle whose monologue on the modern man has to be heard.
