Network Ten's The Shire.

Network Ten has been surrounded by controversy regarding its soon-to-launch series The Shire, which has been likened to US show Jersey Shore. Will this help ratings?

Ten has said production of the show will begin in Sydney's Sutherland Shire next week, despite the local council's protests.

The Sutherland Shire has come out saying it will not cooperate with Ten in any way, after a promotional video leaked which compared the program to controversial US reality series Jersey Shore.

Ten's programming chief David Mott has said The Shire will not be a clone of the MTV reality series. However, Ten has previously compared the show to Jersey Shore.

Ten has been suffering at the hands of Seven and Nine in the ratings battle. But will the latest off-screen drama help the network's on-screen ratings?
