Clemenger BBDO Brisbane managing director Kurt Viertel has resigned as SapientNitro's joint executive creative directors Nancy Hartley and James Burchill join the agency to head the creative team.

Viertel has resigned from his post after three years in the role and is being replaced by former Clems Brisbane client services director Vanessa Brennan.

“Kurt has been running the agency in what has been a difficult market over the past three years and we wish him well in his future career,” said Clemenger Group executive chairman, Robert Morgan. “We are in discussions in respect to continuing his career within the Clemenger Group.”

Brennan, client services director from 2003 until 2006, was most recently chief executive of Canstar Blue. She has also worked as head of marketing for Terry White Chemists and national communications and CRM director for Cummins & Partners Brisbane (now SapientNitro).

Hartley and Burchill join the agency as joint creative directors following Friday's news that they had resigned from SapientNitro. The pair is best known for their work on the highly lauded 'Best Job in the World' campaign for Tourism Queensland.

With the appointments of Brennan and Hartley, Clemenger BBDO Brisbane is now one of the few Australian agencies with a mostly-female executive team.

“Vanessa, Nancy and James are passionate locals with international reputations,” said Morgan. “They are new-age advertising leaders who will help bring Clemenger BBDO Brisbane into line with the rest of the group and make us the number one agency in Brisbane. We will also be utilising their vast talents across the Clemenger Group nationally.”

Viertel said: "It has been a great ride. We re-launched Clemenger BBDO in the market, literally built a new agency, acquired and integrated Gallery DePasquale, won and ran Australia’s 2nd biggest IPO campaign, put some iconic brand names on the door and hired a heap of great people in the process. I'm looking forward to starting the next chapter”.
