Three Mobile's 'The Pony' has topped the AdNews Viral Video Chart this week.

A commercial for Three mobile in the UK featuring a moon-walking pony has topped the AdNews Viral Video Chart this week, followed by other major brands including Heineken, Oreo and Air New Zealand.

The top-ranked animated commercial showed a dancing pony and carried the tagline 'Silly Stuff, It Matters'. It encouraged users to create and share their own version of the dancing pony to a track of their choice with its Pony Mixer app. The ad amassed over two million hits in under a week, and shares of over 179,000 and 16,400 on Facebook and Twitter respectively.

In second place was an international ad from Heineken which showed the company putting prospective interns through strange situations with the interviewer, including holding hands and helping him after he spontaneously fainted. The successful candidate earned the opportunity to work in the company's event and sponsorship department. The push attracted 2.5 million hits and was shared 189,000 and 9,650 on Facebook and Twitter since its launch on 19 February.

Oreo took out third place with a new spot in its 'Cookie Or Creme' campaign, with a video showing American physicist David Neevel inventing a machine to separate the biscuit. It gathered 3.4 million YouTube hits and was shared far more times on Twitter than Facebook with respective scores of 117,608 and 41,452.

Other brands to feature on the chart were Audi with an ad for its new RS 4 Avant model and Air New Zealand with its Bear Grylls-frontal in-flight safety spot. Tour De France and clothing brand Jag also featured.

The AdNews Viral Video Chart ranks Australia's most popular brand-funded videos based on a combination of views and natural sharing.

The chart is updated fortnightly based on data from video sharing sites such as YouTube and activity on Facebook and Twitter. Note that the chart shows total views, not the number of views generated in the past fortnight, so those with a higher number of cumulative views may appear lower down in the top ten.
