Fairfax executives are preparing to meet with Australia's wealthiest person Gina Rinehart, to discuss her motives for purchasing 12.6% of the media company.

In recent weeks the media has been buzzing with speculation about Rinehart's motives for purchasing a stake in Fairfax.

A report in The Australian has suggested that Fairfax executives are meeting with Rinehart to discuss her intentions.

It is widely expected that Rinehart will want a seat on the Fairfax board, and that she may also seek to gain an even larger stake in the company.

Rinehart already controls a 10% stake in Ten Network Holdings.
