They're back. The laugh-out-loud ads from Devondale which so cheekily introduced 'Sunshine Bubble' into the popular lexicon, almost. A new effort is just as mirthful.
You can never underestimate the value of good casting in a humour-driven ad. It makes all the difference between awkwardly funny and just awkward.
Happily, the latest TV ad from Devondale, this time to promote its Dairy Soft range, features excellent casting in spades. And it had a high comedic bar to meet after the 'Sunshine Bubble' ad it unveiled earlier this year.
“Unlike hard butter, Devondale Dairy Soft spreads straight from the fridge,” said Devondale general manager innovations, marketing and special projects Suzanne Douglas. “But as is the Devondale way, we wanted to deliver this message in an entertaining and unexpected way.”
DDB Melbourne executive creative director Darren Spiller added: “There's one drawback to hard butter – it rips holes in your toast. This can often be misconstrued as a form of passive aggression.
“Actually, we made that last bit up, but we had great fun exaggerating the potential consequences of hard butter buttering.”
The campaign debuted last night and will follow up with five more TV ads, and out-of-home and digital executions.
The ad was directed by Tim Bullock.
