Maxus chief executive David Gaines is stepping down from his role to start a new venture, to be replaced by Mindshare's Jon Chadwick.

Gaines has not yet revealed the nature of his new business.

Gaines is one of the more influential players in the local media industry. He is the digital chairm of the Media Federation of Australia, and is a spokesperson for digital reform in the media industry.

Chadwick, an Australian, comes to Maxus from Mindshare Worldwide in Portland Oregon USA, where he ran the global Nike business.

GroupM chief executive John Steedman said: “I want to thank David for his outstanding contribution to Maxus Australia and wish him continued success in his new venture.

“I am incredibly excited to welcome Jon home and to have someone of his caliber running Maxus. Maxus is the fastest growing agency in the world and I am sure Jon will lead Maxus Australia to ever greater heights.”

Chadwick will arrive in the new role in October, and will be based in Sydney.

He will work closely with chief operating officer Mark McCraith, who is based in Melbourne.

Chadwick said: “ I am absolutely delighted by the opportunity to join Maxus in Australia. It’s brilliant to stay within the GroupM family and I look forward to working with the great team and clients that make up the unique entrepreneurial spirit of Maxus Australia.”
