Chrysler ad cleared despite complaints of animal sex

A television ad for Chrysler Australia showing a dog in a man's bed wearing lingerie has been cleared by the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB), despite complaints it suggested bestiality.

The Advertising Standards Bureau received a number of complaints about the ad, which was created by CumminsRoss.

One complaint said, “The bedroom scene implies that the man has had a sexual encounter with the dog. This is really gutter advertising.”

Another person said, “I am disturbed that this appears to be a reference to bestiality in prime time TV hours."

However, the ASB has determined the ad did not breach advertising standards, saying: “The Board acknowledged that some people could find the advertisement to be in poor taste however the Board noted that this is not an issue which falls under the provisions of the Code and considered that the mild implication of something inappropriate between the dog and the man is overridden by the humour of the advertisement and the fact that viewers are aware of what the dog has done.”
