UM Melbourne has hired former BWM Melbourne head of planning David Hearn as its new head of strategy.

The newly created position will see Hearn report to the agency's managing director, Kim Lion and its national chief strategy office, Stefan Burford.

Hearn has 13 years of industry experience and was most recently head of planning at BWM Melbourne. He has also worked with Carat in Australia and the UK, which he did for a period of nine years.

Burford said in a statement: “This is a new and important role at UM Melbourne and reflects our focus on building the most strategically capable media agency in the market. David is a highly experienced and awarded professional who has an outstanding track record in delivering high-quality insights and exciting strategic thinking to clients.”

Meanwhile, Lion said he will have a "significant impact" on the agency's future capabilities.

Hearn will officially join the agency from tomorrow, 13 March.
