Air New Zealand has revealed British personality Bear Grylls as the face of its new in-flight safety campaign.

Air New Zealand has launched another celebrity-fronted in-flight safety video, this time featuring British television personality Bear Grylls.

The light-hearted video shows Grylls exploring New Zealand's Routeburn Track on its South Island, dispelling various safety tips. He is accompanied by iconic New Zealand entomologist Ruud Kleinpaste, and comes across several native animals in his travels. The spot features three New Zealand scouts and airline staff.

The push is running on the company's YouTube channel, and is being promoted on social media with the hashtag #airnzbear. It also offers viewers a trip for two to New Zealand from any global location.

The video follows the airline's Hobbit-themed push, 'An Unexpected Briefing', which starred Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and several of the trilogy's famous characters. It was rolled out last November and amassed over nine million global hits in just two weeks.

Prior to that, the airline had conduced videos starring the All Blacks team fitness instructor Richard Simmons.

Grylls said he had always called New Zealand his "home away from home". Air New Zealand chief marketing and custom officer Mike Tod said Grylls was the "ideal partner" for the airline, likely to deliver gobal traction that would help boost tourism.

Grylls is the star of television adventure show Man vs. Wild, which sees him battle the elements to share outlandish survival tips.
