Air NZ dishes out food and booze to homesick Kiwis: it knows its punters

Air New Zealand has rolled out a campaign over the weekend aiming to provide Perth-based NZ expats with reminders of home.

Air New Zealand has treated homesick Perth-based expats with an event called 'Little Piece of Home' over the weekend, offering movies, regional cuisine and wine. It made one Kiwi cry. With joy.

The airline wanted to give New Zealand expats and their guests the chance to 'reconnect' with their roots with two movie nights in Perth. To get the Kiwis in, this weekend the airline laid on free dinner and the best of New Zealand wines, cider and beer. It worked. Over 700 turned up.

A selection of "Kiwi surprises" collected by the airline's flight crew were also on offer, combining confectionery, chips and even a jar of boiled eggs to replicate the sweet aroma of Rotorua. The music and movies on the nights were chosen by the airline's 352,768 Facebook fans.

Topping off the initiative, Air NZ made it a very special day for Ben Young. They flew over his parents for his birthday and screened the pre-filmed reunion at the event. Not a dry eye in the house, apparently.
