Movers & Shakers: M&C Saatchi, DDB, Leo Burnett, 303 MullenLowe, PubMatic

It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out some of the biggest moves this week.

M&C Saatchi's Emily Taylor departs

M&C Saatchi Group's chief strategy officer Emily Taylor will be departing the agency this week. Taylor was appointed in late 2020 and rounded out the agency's leadership team with group managing director Russell Hopson and chief creative officer Cam Blackley who have both left the agency since. Taylor has been a Gruen Transfer panelist since 2018 and has also held leadership roles at AKQA, VCCP, Moon, BMF, Leo Burnett and Colenso BBDO.

M&C Saatchi's new CEO is marketer Zaid Al-Qassab

The new CEO of M&C Saatchi is is Zaid Al-Qassab, the CMO of UK's Channel 4. He replaces co-founder Moray MacLennan who stepped down in September. Zaid will take the reins with the company facing negative growth. Full year net revenue is expected to be down 7% to £252 million (AUD487 million) when financial results for the 2023 year are released in April.

Clare Pickens appointed Leo Burnett Australia CEO

Publicis Groupe has appointed Clare Pickens CEO of Leo Burnett Australia. The former Wieden+Kennedy executive, currently based in Amsterdam, will take the helm in April. Emma Montgomery, the former CEO of Leo Burnett Australia, last year became CEO of DDB Chicago, two years after returning to Australia from the US.

DDB nabs The Monkeys duo Emmalie Narathipakorn and Seamus McAlary

Creative agency DDB Sydney has appointed Emmalie Narathipakorn senior art director and Seamus McAlary senior copywriter. The pair have worked together since 2019, with a background in design, acting and comedy writing. They have spent the past four years at The Monkeys, part of Accenture Song, where they created several campaigns including Australian Lamb’s ‘Un-Australia’, Amazon’s ‘One Day Delivery’ and Telstra’s ‘This is Footy Country’.

Social Soup appoints Jess Hope head of growth and innovation

Australia and New Zealand influencer marketing business Social Soup has appointed Jess Hope to the newly created role of head of growth and innovation. With more than 15 years’ social, creative and content marketing experience, Hope has spent her career immersed in entertainment, music, publishing and advertising.

Sara Oteri appointed ECD at 303 MullenLowe Perth

303 MullenLowe Perth has hired Sara Oteri as executive creative director. She was most recently ECD at Melbourne agency Akkomplice, where she worked on Darrell Lea, Daimler, Sirena Tuna, Kellogg’s and Cricket Australia among others, prior to her move home to Perth.

Quantcast hires Paramount's Brittany McBride

Advertising technology company Quantcast has appointed Brittany McBride client success manager. McBride, will be based in Sydney, comes to Quantcast from Paramount where she was a digital account manager, prior she was a account manager for Bauer Media and an ad executive for News Corp. She was named a finalist for the NSW Digital Salesperson of the Year in 2022.

Charlotte Byrne named Guardian Australia's partnerships manager

Charlotte Byrne has been appointed partnerships manager at Guardian Australia. Byrne joins from Schwartz Media, where she was responsible for leading and developing the sales team across direct, agency and media partnerships.

Peter Barry returns to APAC with PubMatic

Peter Barry has been appointed by PubMatic as VP of addressability and commerce media. Barry’s appointment sees him return to PubMatic’s Australia office, following a move to New York in 2021 as PubMatic’s global VP of addressability and commerce. He will be responsible for rolling out PubMatic’s commerce media solution, Convert, across the APAC region. Convert provides retailers, brands and advertisers with a unified audience monetisation and acquisition platform to maximise the reach and revenue of commerce media. 

Ben Skelsey departs Huge

Ben Skelsey, the Australian managing director of IPG's creative consultancy Huge, is leaving after more than four years at the agency. IPG's Huge, the 20 plus year design and innovation outfit born in Brooklyn, officially opened for business in Australia at the start of 2023. His departure comes after Mat Baxter stepped down as CEO of Huge in January, a role he'd had since 2021.

Luke Martin exits 72andSunny for Afterpay

Luke Martin has left his role as ECD at 72andSunny for Afterpay, where he starts a new position as global head of creative. Martin joined 72andSunny in 2020 and worked at BMF as creative director prior when he relocated to Sydney group. 

InDaily editorial changes

Thomas Kelsall has been appointed state political reporter at InDaily, while reporter Helen Karakulak will replace Kelsall as city reporter, covering Adelaide City Council and all issues affecting the CBD. She will also continue to write news and features for CityMag, part of InDaily's network. Recent graduate Isabella Kelly has been appointed as a breaking news reporter for InDaily. InDaily is the flagship publication of South Australian-based national publishing company, Solstice Media.
