DDB Sydney has retained the Volkswagen Australia creative account following a competitive pitch.

The appointment sees the agency, which was the incumbent for the VW passenger vehicles account pick up the Volkswagen commercial vehicles and Skoda brands as well.

Volkswagen Passenger Vehicle’s general manager of marketing, Ben Wilks, said: “We are pleased to continue our long-term relationship with DDB.

“It was a difficult decision due to the impressive calibre of the pitching agencies, however DDB provided the best fit for our business.”

AdNews understands that Host and Droga5 were the other agencies in the final stages of the pitch.

Globally, VW's account is held by DDB in a long-running relationship which has spanned nearly 60 years. But speculation that the account could move was fuelled by VW New Zealand moving from DDB to Colenso last year.
