Australia's Eurovision contestant Dami Im has released the song that she will perform at this year's Eurovision in Stockholm, Sweden.

The X-Factor winner will sing Sound of Silence: a catchy, power ballad that certainly sounds like it was made for the song contest.

"There are many ways to interpret the meaning around a song, but one theme that I relate to in Sound of Silence is that of disconnection and being away from the people in my life that I love," Im says.

"We live in a world where it is easy to be connected every minute of the day but along with this connection you can feel alone and isolated. I can’t wait to perform it live in Stockholm and connect with a whole new audience.”

The song was written by David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii of Australian DNA Songs, who have penned hits for pop stars including Ricky Martin, Jessica Mauboy, Delta Goodrem and The Veronicas.

Born in Korea, Im shot to fame after winning the fifth season of X-Factor and was subsequently signed up by Sony Music Entertainment.

She is the second entertainer to represent Australia after Guy Sebastian's performance of Tonight Again earned a credible fifth place in last year's song contest.

Last year was the first time Australia has been invited to take part in the popular and often zany song contest.

The semi-final involving Sebastian drew in an average metro TV audience of 639,000 viewers, while the final attracted half of that amount, most likely affected by the time delay and social media activity.
