Young Gun profiles takes a look at the young talent across the Australian advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector. Aiming to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Hannah Tarlinton, agency sales executive at Scentre Group

Time in current role/time at the company:

I have been with Scentre Group BrandSpace for the past 2 years. As you can imagine, a lot has happened, changed in the industry in that time.

How long have you been in the industry?

8 years. I have worked across a dynamic range of media roles including activations, publishing (magazines), back to activations, PR, OOH – you name it!

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

Is there ever really a plan?! Like most people within this industry, I fell into it (and have loved every second!). I started my career working in activations before returning to this world, working across the Coca-Cola portfolio. After COVID19, I gained a wealth of hands-on experience working in a boutique PR agency before taking the leap into the world of Scentre Group.

My role is dynamic and aligns perfectly with my passion for building and executing strategic and innovative campaigns with larger, global clients. My experience across different arms of the media industry has allowed me to build a deep understanding of client needs and how best to meet and service them.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

While I like to be the favourite, I’d hate to pick one – two key members of our agency team guide me day to day:

Olivia Gotch – group manager

Liv’s strategic, level-headed and positive thinking is such an asset to our team and business. Her ability to motivate our team to strive for success every day by leading from example is an inspiration to those around her. Her willingness to help out whenever and wherever she can means we get to work closely together.

Dan Tray – group sales manager

Dan’s sense of humour makes coming in to work every day a blast. He is approachable and genuine and it’s this nature which allows him to form longstanding, trusted relationships with clients. He is dynamic and strategic and has supported me greatly in refining my skillset and forming approaches to briefs and campaigns.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The people: I turn up to work every day because of the energy in our team and across our business and agencies - I love working with such a diverse and vibrant group of people. Many of our agency partners have become friends and it’s this connection which builds a deeper sense of pride in the work we’re doing together.

The problem solving: We are empowered every day to be thought leaders and I love the challenge of taking on a client brief and forming a unique solution that meets their needs. I’m particularly passionate about partnering with big, global brands to tackle large-scale briefs that exceed their expectations.

And the biggest challenge?

What makes our role challenging (and equally as exciting) is that the market is constantly evolving. Audiences continue to change the way they consume media and source information as well as the platforms they favour. With this in mind, it’s essential we are always on the pulse when it comes to understanding how our customers are behaving to ensure we are putting forward the most effective and relevant solutions for our partners.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

Is Harry Styles hiring? Asking for a friend…

Given the extent to which our industry is changing and evolving, it’s tricky to narrow it down to one job! Going in the direction of what I am most passionate about, I am interested in continuing to develop my leadership skills while growing the scope and breadth of clients I work with.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

My local Westfield and I’d be lying if I didn’t say Tik Tok.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I represented NSW in swimming when I was in primary school (and clearly peaked way too soon in life).

In five years' time I'll be…

Celebrating my 7 year work anniversary with Scentre Group?! Irrespective of what the future holds, I want to be constantly challenged in what I’m doing and continuing to learn new skills, surrounded by a team as incredible as our current one.
