Adelia D’Andrea: marketing & communications executive, ANZ at dentsu

Time in current role/time at company:

Nine months.

How long have you been in the industry?

Nine months.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I moved back to Australia after receiving my journalism degree in Canada four years ago. I had no idea what my next move was, but I was lucky to had been given an opportunity at a start-up ecommerce platform. The role gave me some great experience and it piqued my interest in a career in communications.

When dentsu reached out I was working in a corporate comms role at REA Group, I loved my job but there was something about the advertising industry that always intrigued me – so I decided to make the move when they offered me the role and haven’t looked back!

Who is your right-hand who guides you day to day?

The one and only Miranda Ward! Not only do I consider Miranda one of my biggest mentors and inspirations, she’s also a friend I turn to for general life advice.

Another special shoutout goes to my manager Lucy Povlsen and Kate Sterling, they’ve encouraged me to expand into a marketing role within a year and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity. I’m so lucky to be surrounded by such a talented and empowering group of women who are also absolute guns in the industry.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The amount of interesting people I get to meet, work with and learn from. It’s an industry that attracts so many creative minds and a wealth of experience from all around the world. I am constantly in awe of the incredible work produced by the business and the sheer talent I get to surround myself with on a daily basis.

And the biggest challenge?

How fast paced it is. Something’s always changing or moving, and I'm learning how important it is to be able to adapt to whatever comes your way.

Whose job have you set your sight on in the future?

I feel like I’ve only just started in this industry and still have lots to learn so there’s no job in mind yet, but I’d love to be in a leadership position one day.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Probably my parents, I look up to and admire them so much. I also find general inspiration through the little things in life, whether that’s going on a walk, a day at the beach, or catching up with a good friend.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:

I spent nine years years living in Switzerland! It was such a beautiful experience and I miss it all the time, despite how much I love living in Sydney.

In five years', time I’ll be:

Ideally in a managerial position – but I'm also trying to expect the unexpected! I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and seeing where it all takes me.
